Community Activites
Kigelia Camp clearly understands that community empowerment and development is the key to sustainable conservation. This is as important in and around Ruaha National Park as it is anywhere else. Preserving the environment is at the core of our values and we are committed to partnering with the community to ensure sustainable development in the region. We are also keen to create an understanding and appreciation of wildlife and its benefits to local communities.
Kigelia Camp’s philanthropic work is mainly directed through the “Ruaha Conservation Fund” organization, which has been active in and around Ruaha for many years. For more information on the work they do, please see link to their website:
The people in the Iringa region are predominantly of the Hehe tribe and our staff members are chiefly drawn from this fascinating community that has its roots proudly and deeply entrenched in its solid traditions.
So far our key role in the community has been directed towards education by assisting the primary and secondary schools in the region.
In the short time of our existence we have established relationships with Idodi and Tungamalenga Schools. Kigelia Camp recently contributed towards the Idodi School rebuilding program after the girls’ dormitory was tragically destroyed by fire in 2009, killing a number of students.
Any donations will continue to be directed to these schools.
